Art Owned by Michelle Benjamin

I received a message from a distant relative, Michelle Benjamin, through this website. Michelle is the great-granddaughter of one of Sarah Benjamin Lewis’s brothers, John Benjamin. We share great-great-grandparents, therefore the Michelle is my 3rd cousin. I shared some of the photos I have of Sarah and John Benjamin’s parents with Michelle. Hubert was John Benjamin’s brother-in-law, which would make Hubert Michelle’s great-great uncle.

It would seem Hubert was generous with giving other family his art work, not just his children,  as Michelle had five to share here. Michelle told me that she knew the art she inherited was created by a relative, but said she didn’t really know who H. Lewis was or the stories behind him until she found my website.

The first Smooth Stream is much like John and Kim Hundley’s On the Bank, as well as Dave Kennedy’s Running Stream once again.

About Kim

A few pieces of my great grandfather's work were always in display at our home growing up. In fact, every relative it seemed had his art hanging. One day I wanted to find out more about him, and it seemed there was no compilation of information in any one place, and there was some confusion about who H Lewis was. So I started digging and it led me to be the one to compile information from several different places, with a lot of the information coming from relatives who had stories handed down to them. I also searched records and collected art. Please fill free to contact me regarding information about Hubert Lewis.

I believe I just might have a H.R. Lewis oil painting. I won it in an auction May 2021.

I had an online ( Dr. LORI) do an online appraisal to which I still have the letter of her stating that it really could be a real H. R. Lewis painting. I’ve been trying to research this painting off and on now since 2021. This painting has no glass on the frame. Has the same frame as many of the other paintings. The size is 20 x 24 inches. The picture is depicting of various flowers particularly asters, lilacts and zinnias with a round blue vase. signed in the lower right side H. R. Lewis.
